On Sunday, November 19 Justicia Global
and la Asociación de Convites Campesino del Ramón held a workshop on medicinal plants in San Cristóbal.
People, ages five to a hundred and five, attended from eight communities throughout the San Cristóbal province.
The two organizations saw the necessity of holding a workshop to learn new ways of relating to our bodies, our health and the environment. |
We learned to make the most of the plants and products we can find in our own yards to cure and prevent sickness. The participants of the workshop presented on the medicinal uses of garlic, bananas, onions, lemons, organges, carrots and mangoes.
Participants took home a Medicinal Plants Notebook with pages on all of the products. This is to continue studying, to prepare the recipes at home and share their new knowledge in their communities.

Reproduced below is the introduction of the Notebook:
A just world is a world
in which all people
can enjoy a long, healthy life.
To achieve this, we don't need expensive pills or prescriptions.
We can be healthy by using plants, fruits and vegetables
as has been passed down through the generations,
from grandmother to granddaughter,
father to son, aunt to niece.
The first step is to get to know nature
so we can learn to respect her, care for her
and trust in her healing powers.
For this reason, the Community Workshop on Medicinal Plants
promotes new kinds of relationships among people,
our bodies, our health and our natural surroundings.
In the first part of the notebook
we will learn about the medicinal uses of different plants.
In the second part
we will learn techniques necessary for processing these plants
that we use in natural medicine.
